AZUSA/LONG BEACH, Calif. – UTEP distance runners Andres Gurrola and Paul Rotich, and sprinter Kalix Robinson each set personal bests on a light day of competition for the Miners at the Bryan Clay Invitational (Azusa) and Beach Invitational (Long Beach) on Friday afternoon.

At the Bryan Clay, Gurrola opened the day with a personal-best time of 14:32.53 in the men's 5000-meter run.

Rotich clocked a personal best of 1:54.44 in the men's 800-meter race. Rotich placed 65th overall of 152 competitors.

At the Beach Invite, Robinson turned in a personal-best 48.59 in the men's 400-meter dash. Robinson placed second overall.

"We continued to build momentum on day two with some strong performances across the board. The day was highlighted by a big performance from Andres Gurrola at the Bryan Clay Invitational, where he ran 14:32.53 for a 13-second personal best in the 5,000 meters. That's a huge step forward for him and a great example of the progress we're continuing to make in our distance group," first-year UTEP head coach Francesca Green said. "We had a smaller group competing today, but still saw strong performances, including personal bests from Paul Rotich in the 800 meters and Kalix Robinson in the 400 meters. It was great to see them step up and take advantage of their opportunities. Overall, we're continuing to see growth, competitiveness, and confidence from our team as we move through the weekend. We have one more day of competition tomorrow at both the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Long Beach Invitational, and we're looking forward to finishing the weekend strong."
