Box Score

BOWLING GREEN, Kentucky – UTEP softball fell, 8–3, in the series finale at Western Kentucky Sunday afternoon at the WKU Softball Complex.

With the loss, UTEP moves to 11-30 overall and 3-18 in Conference USA play, while WKU improves to 33-10 (15-6 CUSA).

Western Kentucky struck first in the opening frame, plating two runs on an RBI double and a bases-loaded walk to take a 2-0 lead.

The Miners answered in the top of the fourth in a big way. Kenna Carranza launched a three-run home run to left field, bringing home Ari Leon and Brantley Lavas to give UTEP a 3-2 advantage.

WKU quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning, capitalizing on miscues to score six runs. The Hilltoppers used a combination of a fielding error, timely hits, and RBI efforts to reclaim control at 8-3.

UTEP was limited offensively, recording just two hits on the day. Iliana Munoz and Carranza accounted for the Miners' hits, with Carranza's homer marking the lone extra-base hit. She also drew UTEP's only walk of the contest.

In the circle, Hannah Jones earned the start and was charged with the loss, falling to 0-3 on the season after tossing 3.0 innings. Ryann Presswood provided 1.0 inning of relief, while Arianna Flores closed out the game with 2.0 scoreless innings, allowing no hits.
