UTEP T&F Combines for 9 PRs at the New Mexico Don Kirby Tailwind Twilight Friday Night

RESULTS

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – UTEP concluded competition at the New Mexico Don Kirby Tailwind Twilight at the UNM Track & Field Complex late Friday night.  
 
The Miners combined for nine personal bests and eight podium finishes.
 
Senior Oghenekaro Brume clocked in a personal-best 11.79 (1.5) in the women's 100-meter dash and finished fourth overall. Brume was the top Miner in the event. 
 
Freshman Malorie Richardson-Clay hurled a personal-best 13.42 meters (44-0.5) and placed first overall in the women's shot put. 
 
"It was a solid outing for us today. We had nine personal best performances, which shows that our group is continuing to make progress and respond to the work we're putting in," first-year UTEP head coach Francesca Green said. "This was a quick meet for us, but it served its purpose. We wanted to fine-tune some things, get quality reps, and continue building in the areas that matter most at this point in the season. Overall, it was a good step forward."
 
Oleksandr Blonskyi set PRs in the men's discus (32.62m [107-0]) and the pole vault (4.89m [16-0.5]). He finished third in the pole vault. 
 
Braela Sargent set PRs in the women's 100-meter hurdles (16.28) and the shot put (7.74m [25-4.75]). 
 
Samirah Avila set PRs in the women's 100 hurdles (16.28) and the shot put (9.65m [31-8]). 
 
Elijah Elow-Renich threw a personal-best 8.38 meters (27-6) in the women's shot put. 
 
Samahri Foster won the women's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.79. Cailee Phillips was third (1:05.92). 
 
Cydni Martin was second in the women's 100 hurdles with a time of 13.86.
 
Sebastian Avena finished second in the men's 400 (47.91). 
 
Elias Munoz finished third in the men's 100 (10.60). 
 
Zacarias Velasquez was third in the men's long jump with a leap of 7.01 meters (23-0). 
 
"Now it's about getting back to work, staying consistent, and continuing to improve day by day," Green said. "Next up for us is the SMU Invite next weekend, and we're really looking forward to that opportunity to continue building and competing at a high level."

UP NEXT
UTEP will conclude regular-season action at the SMU Invite on May 1-2. The Miners will then compete at the 2026 Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Murfreesboro, Tenn., on May 15-17.
